By the end of the course the students should have a working knowledge of imaging and chemical analysis on the SEM, an introduction to imaging and analysis on the TEM and AFM, and an understanding of the techniques.

The course will be divided into morning lectures (introducing the necessary theoretical background to the techniques) and three afternoon practical sessions running in parallel. Each practical session should have at most four people, limiting the course to twelve people.

The course is primarily aimed at first year PhD students in Physics or Chemistry.
